Un éléphant ça trompe énormément (1976)

angielski A nice comedy that doesn't provoke volleys of laughter by someone hitting something, falling, slapping someone or being slapped by someone, but by natural dialogues and polished scenes in general. But if the main role was played by someone other than Jean Rochefort, on whose ordinary little man it all rests, I don't know.___P.S. I think the dubbing by Vladimír Fišer helped the film a lot.

Blada twarz (1922)

angielski Who would have thought that Buster Keaton would one day become an Indian chief? Fortunately, Buster Keaton and Edward F. Cline did. The result is yet another unrivalled slapstick full of extremely original gags and charming special effects (burning, jumping off a cliff, landing on a tree...) that will still make you giggle even after ninety-two years.

Thelma i Louise (1991)

angielski A great film in every way, so great that I don't know what to praise first. Scott's precise direction, the performances of the two main actresses, Zimmer's great music, the cinematography, every shot of which looks amazing... Even the ending, which is criticized by many, is excellent, but I have to say that I would have liked the "alternative" (or rather slightly longer) ending, which can be seen among the bonuses, just as much.

Najlepsza kobieta mojego zycia (1968)

angielski "Decency is the best way to go." Jiří Sovák has a plan for the robbery of the century (or so his inner voice says). The cunning script by Jaroslav Dietl and Martin Frič, however, puts in his way a foolish girl played by the irresistible Iva Janžurová, the trickster Čestmír Řanda, the overly sympathetic, charming postmistress Milena Dvorská... And last but not least, his own conscience. The result was a very good comedy with decent suspense at the end.

Codzienne marzenia (1922)

angielski This slapstick is definitely worth it, but only after the police chase. An amazing stunt behind a tram, escapades on a ladder, at the wheel of a steamboat – everything is perfect. But I think the only thing I liked from the first half was the ceremonial burial of the skunk-stained dress.

The Frozen North (1922)

angielski A delicious parodic black comedy (I imagine the Coen brothers would make something similar today). The scenes in the igloo and fishing were simply flawless.

Łódź (1921)

angielski This is one of my favorite Keaton slapstick films ever. A cannonade of ideas, starring a perfect ship with folding masts and chimney, which can even sail uphill and rotate around its own axis at the end. Buster manages to poke holes in it while sealing them up (with food), rescues his wife and two sons, and faces rough seas in a way that a glimpse of his work would drive any sea wolf crazy.

Je sais rien, mais je dirai tout (1973)

angielski A strangely unsuccessful comedy. There are a number of excellent gags and scenes in Don't Know Anything But I'll Tell All that, if cut and played in any order, would make anyone laugh. Be it Bernard Blier's initial phone call, Richard's job-hunting for the Portuguese (and later the Bulgarian), the visit to the factory in disguise, the painting etude... There's a lot of them. And then there are the scenes that seem to have come from a completely different movie - especially the bleeding, shot-up teddy bear. But story that is supposed to connect them sucks, and that is the main problem. In fact, almost nothing happens in between those moments that can be considered interesting.

Avanti! (1972)

angielski This comedy is meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail, with the wonderful duo of Jack Lemmon and Juliet Mills and the magnificent Clive Revill as a professional hotelier who solves every problem without blinking and only sleeps in the winter. He was the one I enjoyed the most. It says this film is "almost as good as Some Like It Hot". Nonsense. It's much better. Despite the length, it entertains from beginning to end, and the many types of humor make it a balanced cocktail that is easy to drink.

Czarownica (2014)

angielski Maleficent gave me almost everything I once expected from Snow White with Julia Roberts as the evil queen. A notorious story imaginatively turned on its head, a magical world where the fairytale meets the darker fantasy stuff, as well as an amazing main character on whom everything is of course based. Angelina Jolie is great in the lead role. She is very pretty, she has no problem expressing any emotion, and every smile (there are not many, but they are there) is literally magical. Moreover, the film boasts a beautiful production design, as the rookie director obviously had a lot of visual ideas and James Newton Howard again pulled successful theme music out of his sleeve, the special effects are just right and the flashy digital ones are only occasionally there. The only thing that bothered me was probably the trio of fairy godmothers, especially since they stopped being digital, while the much talked about useless prince is a pretty good joke considering the original fairy tale (where he also does almost nothing because the fairies do most of the work for him).
