Brygada ponad prawem (2015)

angielski In many respects an average action spectacle, but Jean Reno still has a charismatic face (otherwise, unfortunately, it's not worth much, for example, he walks very badly), the shootout scene is good (although it's shot entirely digitally and sparkles like sparklers at Christmas) and the fight in the garage is also good. If it weren't for the brisk direction, it would be good for probably Steven Seagal.

Počestné paní pardubické (1944)

angielski Otakar Vávra had The Guild of Kutná Hora Virgins, Martin Frič had The Respectable Ladies of Pardubice. Both films are cute costume historical comedies of a French sort, both have beautiful sets, are professionally shot, and you don't really come across a bad actor in them. But I like this one a bit more, which is mainly due to the vigorous Jiřina Štěpničková, the mesmerizing Zita Kabátová, Jaroslav Marvan, Jindřich Plachta ("Damn Women's Generation!") and also Dana Medřická, who has already made her presence known in this small role.

Falešná kočička aneb Když si žena umíní (1926)

angielski Vlasta Burian as a drunkard posing as a dentist, who pulls out one tooth after another in the chair and "likes me - doesn't like me" while thinking of his former love, that's simply a must-see. Not that The False Pussycat offers anything but great performances from our later king of comedians, but what he does is simply great and unrivalled. He even practices walking with crutches, which he later used in the second half of The Undertaker.

Bogowie Egiptu (2016)

angielski If you still like to watch any episode of TV's Hercules or Xena now and then and enjoy the deliberately simple naivety and bickering of mortals and gods and goddesses who don't go far for a 21st century catchphrase, Gods of Egypt is for you. The film is nothing more than a relaxing fantasy, which fortunately is not take itself seriously. It's a pity that the film is not shorter and a bit more interestingly cast (all the actors are of course dominated by Geoffrey Rush as the god Re, who circles the flat Earth with his ark, dragging the Sun behind him).___P.S. Great music by Marco Beltrami!___P.P.S. I've seen the dubbed version and it's not terrible, except for Gerard Butler, who is voiced by Zdeněk Mahdal.

Syn Szawła (2015)

angielski Just as strongly as the opening half-hour impressed me, I was (except for the very end) put off by the following hour, drawn out and full of situations that seemed, by and large, too far-fetched. Of course, I don't know how things were in the extermination camps, and it's quite possible that such things could have happened there, but the constant moving of the body, the moving from one ward to another, the excuses... It was a bit too fantastic for my taste and the realistic concept was just too much. Despite all the criticisms (one of which would be directed at the creators of the Czech subtitles, who God knows why, didn't translate everything and I had the feeling that I missed something important, because I can only say segedýn in Hungarian), I can't deny the film's absolutely fantastic processing, the idea "Let's make the viewer feel like the main character.", the repulsively impressive cinematography, and the excellently done sound, which simply cannot be the same at home in front of the computer or TV as in a cinema full of unsettled people. If I ever get the courage, I'll watch it again. But now I'd rather have another comedy, please.

Roztomilý člověk (1941)

angielski Oldřich Nový and Nataša Gollová were clearly in their element, playing such endearing septuagenarians, mystifiers and fantasists under the reliable baton of Martin Frič. I especially like the fact that while in other films the hero, who with the click of a single lying pebble triggers a whole avalanche of lies, eventually makes amends voluntarily or involuntarily, here he does not. Here he finds a person who will let himself be carried along by the avalanche, because it's simply great. Of the cast, apart from the aforementioned, I would like to single out the newlywed Lída Chválová, who, apart from being pretty, also impressed me with her natural, forceful and perhaps one could say contemporary acting - no "oh", "ah", "uh-oh", etc.

John Wick (2014)

angielski A gritty, simple action flick starring Keanu Reeves as Baba Jaga. John Wick is, on the whole, entertaining and imaginative, honestly filmed. Comparisons with Gibson's Payback or Neeson's (the first!) Taken, which it does not equal, but mostly comes close. It's a kind of neon modern spaghetti western.

Gang Related (1997)

angielski An enjoyable, though unremarkable film. Actually, not to be unfair - Dennis Quaid's performance is exceptional, as the bearded homeless man found another supporting role to play with his usual grace. It's a perfect show for a weekend afternoon, but one mustn't dwell too much on various situations (for example, why the court wants the witness to identify a man who looks completely different from the last time she saw him).

Expedice Altaj - Cimrman mezi jeleny (2007)

angielski I was expecting something in the style of Stopa vede do Liptákova, and I got something completely different and very strangely bad. I give one star for my favorite cimrmanologist Miloň Čepelka and for one single joke with a rejuvenated genius. Otherwise, this "film" is a bad joke - a very ordinary, mediocre documentary, grafted onto Jára Cimrman "for the sake of spice", grafted in a rather skeletal, uninteresting and humorless way. Poor Cimrman.

Diabelska przepasc (1961)

angielski Such a slow and yet such a gripping film. And how fantastic it looks - from the very first shot! Well, František Vláčil. For some, The Devil's Trap may be just a prelude to Marketa Lazarová and The Valley of the Bees, but for me it is a full-fledged historical drama about people, nature, God and the devil. Miroslav Macháček gave a great performance.
