Wielkie wesele (2013)

angielski I'd seen it once before but had reliably forgotten it, and now that I look back on it, I really didn't need to be reminded of it. The comedy The Big Wedding is teeming with stars, but there's little humor in it, and the story feels utterly bland. Not even the final romantic twist saves this screenwriting fiasco. (35%)

Dunya i Desie (2008)

angielski It’s good for one viewing, but I strongly doubt I'd be jumping with excitement if I ever wanted to repeat this relaxed journey of women exploring Morocco to find their roots in the future. In my opinion, the film does not have the potential to appeal to a wider public. (55%)

Juno (2007)

angielski I don't think I've seen a better comedy about an (un)wanted pregnancy yet. Diablo Cody wrote a clever screenplay that simply had no flaws, and Ellen Page admirably portrayed the slightly eccentric protagonist, with it being worth noting that all involved supported her excellently. The overall positive atmosphere of the film was also contributed to by a fine soundtrack, which I would gladly listen to again. (85%)

Svatba s podmínkou (1965)

angielski The perfectly depicted atmosphere of the sixties, excellent sharply nerve-wracking music, the fresh and well-acting central duo Marie Drahokoupilová and Michael Junášek, a love story with a broad impact reaching into the present... These undeniable pros were enough to make me devour the film like a raspberry. (85%)

Atlantic Crossing (2020) (serial)

angielski I didn't know much about Norwegian WWII history, but thanks to the series Atlantic Crossing I had the opportunity to educate myself a bit. The somewhat romanticized relationship between the Norwegian Crown Princess Märtha and the American President Franklin D. Roosevelt did not seem very plausible to me, but almost everything else seemed very believable and authentic. While the first episode didn't particularly appeal to me, the next episodes totally drew me into the story and I even shed a tear while watching the last one. (80%)

The Money Pit (1986)

angielski There are fewer and fewer good comedies being made, so I had no choice but to look into the depths of the past. The Money Pit is primarily filled with a plethora of unusually funny gags and also features the charmingly quirky Tom Hanks. When these undeniable strengths are combined with an intellectually undemanding story that also unfolds decently, success is essentially guaranteed. At least I had a great time and I would love to do it again sometime. (75%)

Léto s gentlemanem (2019)

angielski I always liked Jaromír Hanzlík. I was looking forward to his cinematic comeback, so I'm disappointed that it didn't turn out particularly well. The script, which he wrote himself, unfortunately has a lot of weak spots, but I can't say that the story itself offends me in any way. If there weren't so many comparisons Summer with a Cowboy, which is much better and funnier, I'd give Summer with Gentleman at least a weaker three stars. I'm slowly reaching the age when I can identify with Anna played by Alena Antalová. (40%)

Król Lew (2019)

angielski I never saw the original The Lion King from 1994, so I'm not burdened with the need to compare the films. The story itself is very nice and the songs are easy to listen to. The technical execution is very good. It just seems a bit synthetic to me and smacks of commerce. But I suppose child viewers must be excited about this film. (70%)

Śmieszny ślub (2017)

angielski Even a stellar cast couldn't save this desperately unfunny comedy. In the end, I was most impressed by the pleasant soundtrack. During the conversational boredom, however, I noticed that Glenn Close is an extraordinarily charming lady for her age. She's still got it! A few years younger than her, John Malkovich looks like an old man next to her. (40%)

Komik (2019)

angielski The 1980s in the Soviet Union weren't exactly a golden age for humor. The stage performer Boris Arkadyev, brilliantly played by Aleksey Agranovich, is making his way through this socio-political mess as best he can, and it is mostly a very unpleasant sight. His inner rebellion against the regime eventually bubbles to the surface in the sauna, where his comrades make it clear that they are not going to accept this style of banter. The contribution of The Humorist lies mainly in the fact that it contains critical allusions to the current conditions in Russia. (80%)
