I really didn't expect it to be that shit, but I've been trying to find something that would be at least a little bit good for Rebel Moon for about an hour now. Well, let's just say the make-up effects and Ed Skrein's overacting bad guy are pretty cool, other than that, though, it's a complete monstrosity. If anyone was living in hope until recently that Zack Snyder was a lousy writer but could still be at least a decent director, they'll lose that hope here, because almost nothing in Rebel Moon was good. The questionable quality of the visual effects would be the least of the problems, as would the shoddy rip-offs of just about every major sci-fi film from Star Wars to The Fifth Element, Flash Gordon to The Matrix to Jupiter Ascending. The bigger problem is that, audiovisually, the whole thing is uglier than the fifteen-year-old Mutant Chronicles, and you can't see a damn thing in the action scenes. Snyder as a cameraman keeps relying on the already pretty annoying slow-motion effect, but most of all he can't even get a proper picture of the characters who are currently fighting, and that none of the heroes have any personality or motivation. And I don’t mean a believable motivation, but any motivation whatsoever, because recruiting galactic badasses usually goes along the lines of "Can you help us? - I don't know, more like no. - How about revenge? - Ah, okay" . The result is two hours of boring characters running around the screen, bossed around by a perfectly bland Sofia Boutella, all set in an ugly world that looks like a twenty year old sci-fi flick that was already bad back then. Considering Snyder got a blank check from Netflix and could do whatever he wanted and he made this, it's obvious he's completely useless as a filmmaker.

Aquaman and his brother Orm must stop the villainous Black Manta before... whatever. James Wan directed a movie that, thanks to the studio's insane interference, is completely idiotic and nonsensical. But it's still unexpectedly entertaining, as the director throws one visual attraction after another at the audience, and if you don't force yourself to think, you might find that it's actually quite enjoyable. But in your head, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom won't last long. It's simply still too much of a dud for that. The DCEU era could have ended worse, though.

Lukáš's seriously ill mother will probably not be around for much longer, so he decides to please her and convinces his pregnant neighbour Natalia to pretend to be his girlfriend. But when her mom recovers, the two have to keep lying, and since we're in a romantic comedy, it's obvious what's going to happen. The film relies on tried-and-true clichés, but unlike its competitors, it knows how to work them. Tomáš Dianiška's directorial debut manages to be funny and touching at the right moments, has likeable characters and looks unexpectedly good. Too bad for the unnecessarily frantic pace, which makes some plot lines fizzle out a bit and others are a somewhat redundant. Overall, though, a very decent genre film that doesn't shy away from copying from more famous models, and highly above average by Czech standards.

Helena grew up as a child in the woods where her father kidnapped her mother. Now in her thirties, she's pulled herself together, but when she finds out her dad has escaped from prison, she knows she'll have to confront her own past, even if it has to be at gunpoint. This potentially interesting psychological drama or survival thriller is turned into a tired borefest with struggling actors due to the unfortunate narrative style and overall emptiness, it never really gets going and nor does it leave a significant impression.

World War II is over, but Japan is far from finished, for a gigantic monster is approaching its shores. Will it be stopped, or will it make the decimated country fall to the bottom? Godzilla -1.0 is a showcase of great-looking destruction, functional pathos and slightly over-the-top Japanese acting. All in all, though, it's an easily watchable film even for a European, the makers of which have enough enthusiasm, ideas and respect for the original films to make those two hours in the cinema a great time.

Douglas has hit rock bottom more than once in his life. It's no wonder he abandoned people and became friends with dogs. And they'll do anything for him. So when the world tries to hurt him again, it's clear it's not going to end well. Luc Besson delivers a visually stylish and quite entertaining variation on Joker, but it skims the surface, fails to mine interesting themes and looks more like the film of an aspiring debutant than the work of an experienced 60-year-old director. One still expects more from Besson, even after his weaker years.

Two and a half hours of meaningless platitudes and ramblings that lead nowhere, most of the time contradicting each other. A strange mix of banalities, hollowed-out gibberish and bizarre advice, under the surface of which there is at best nothing interesting and at worst instructions on how to cure cancer with a positive approach. In terms of contents, it's awful. Formally, it's no better, because the film looks really ugly, and there's no way to talk about the characters, whose motivations and personalities change based on what the ugly digital bumblebee wants to talk about at the time. A waste of time, for people who, for whatever reason, need someone to tell them they should be nice to their surroundings.

A below-average and obviously mismanaged Marvel film, which impresses with unexpectedly decent action scenes and some chemistry between the central trio. Apart from that, it can only offer a not very interesting story, boring visuals and really very poor attempts to work with the characters and their psychology. And some really really idiotic ideas. It's not a complete blunder like, say, the latest Thor, but it's not a good movie either.

A mediocre horror film about a monster that terrorizes a young girl invisibly. The only thing that sets It Lives Inside apart from the competition is its setting among immigrants from India and its use of their traditions and mythology. Otherwise, it is a routine horror film that surprises neither in plot nor in execution.

The Osage nation has found oil in their territory and became rich. But where there is money, there are people who want to get their hands on it, and they will be going over dead bodies. Martin Scorsese delivers a dense drama about human envy, anger and cruelty that is not entirely audience-friendly and forces you to spend three and a half hours in the company of repulsive people. Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro give brilliant performances here, but the slow pace and a narrative that doesn't rush anywhere demand more attention and patience from the audience than usual. Scorsese is uncompromising, so be ready to do your fair share of time with his newest film. And he's certainly not going to make it easy.
