Zdeněk Zelenka's big-production fairy tale is based on the story 'Intelligence and Luck' by Karel Jaromír Erben. The filmmakers spice up the conflict between these two personifications by adding a third: Envy (played by Jiřina Bohdalová). The film tells the story of a country boy named Matěj who suddenly 'gains his wits' and asks for the princess's hand, at the same time her royal father has been deprived of reason. This is a big post-revolutionary hit with Jiřina Bohdalová, which in its time was boosted by her performance in One Cat after the Other. Her work for television prevailed during the normalization period, and therefore every film she took part in seemed to be unique.

A great fairytale with an excellent script, where something is constantly happening. It can end badly until the end and all the actors hold the fairy tale beautifully above water. However, Jiřina Bohdalová is simply unique in this direction and the role suits her perfectly. She rules the fairy tale, but you still don't want Envy to win. And she won't win...
