II wojna światowa. John (David Hemmings), Tom (Tom Bell) i Cliff (Tony Beckley) to trójka brytyjskich spadochroniarzy, którzy czekają na swojego sierżanta za linią wroga. W ich ręce wpada niemiecki oficer – Helmut (Alan Dobie). Aby uniknąć śmierci, mężczyzna przekonuje Anglików, że pomoże im odszukać dowódcę. Szybko okazuje się jednak, że ten nie żyje. Na domiar złego żołnierze natykają się na niemiecki patrol. Podczas konfrontacji z wrogiem Cliff ginie, a ocalała dwójka próbuje przedostać się na brytyjską stronę. (HBO)

Very brief and low-key, but still one of the best war films I've had the pleasure of seeing. A slow and detailed narrative, with a precise internal depiction of each character, excellent authentic production design and above all a strong and appealing message that just knocks on the door for a long time until it literally blows it to pieces in the last minutes. Definitely the pinnacle of the genre – if nothing else, this should be mandatory in schools. 95%
