Set in Norway during the 1920s, Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken’s eight feature tells the story of the young and innocent Johannes who stumbles upon the charismatic Swede Mikael and joins him on a crime spree in the countryside. The story is loosely based on a notorious criminal case from 1926, which was turned into an infamous film by Tancred Ibsen in 1950. Beautifully shot on 16mm, the film tackles themes such as love, death, the loss of innocence and man's place in nature, with nods to directors like Terrence Malick and Jan Troell.
