Wieczna noc

I appreciate that the director doesn’t spare atmospheric images and music; much of the film audiovisually really gives the impression of creepy, mysterious horror. Unfortunately, however, that impression remained just that. Plot-wise, The Long Night is extremely generic, coming across as a very lazy take on the classic horror theme of a demonic cult. An Alias film that conveys the entire mythology surrounding the central evil to the viewer by having an old book written in Latin fall out at the heroes, one of whom happens to speak Latin, and on the pages that the hero begins to read aloud, the writers have worded their message so cleverly that the viewer understands everything. For a while I wondered if I would just shrug and be satisfied with the fact that the film looks nice for once, but the unsatisfying finale disabused me of these thoughts. Two stars and no more.
