Nighttime Hong Kong, souped up cars and Jackie Chan in the serious role of a kung fu mechanic from a dynasty of mechanics skilled in front-kicks, side-kicks, back-kicks etc. who kicks in anything standing in his way. The first half is outstanding and variegated in terms of action, however the second is too dumb all round (the tragic villain) and over the top (even more tragic slow-motion shots lasting several minutes during duels and fast-motion sequences during races). Which might not matter so much if the movie didn’t take itself so seriously.
