Hou Hsiao-Hsien is one of Taiwan’s most influential late-20th-century filmmakers. This documentary offers an in-depth look at his life and fascinating career. His friend and colleague Olivier Assayas and a camera crew follow Hou through Taipei and into the countryside while the filmmaker shows Assayas where he was raised. Taiwanese film critic Chen Kuo-Fu gives his own insight into his country’s cinema and Hou’s place within it. (Morelia International Film Festival)
