Opisy(1)
This (self-)portrait of the late genius among directors is the kind of film you hope will never end. Godard was generous in interviews yet, here, the creators were still able to discover and incorporate archival footage which even his aficionados will be seeing for the first time. With anyone else, meaningful provocativeness and intellectual directness would be seen as a contradiction in terms; however, in Godard’s case, they fully capture his charisma and expression, his uniqueness and unclassifiability. Arguably the most inspirational filmmaker of all time, he also fascinates contemporary novices in film direction – not only through his work, but also through his ability to analyse it, the demands he makes primarily on himself, and his uncompromising judgement, that all too rare quality.
