In the thirties, the poor living by the Romanian-Hungarian border, were forced to smuggling if they wanted to survive. Mihály, the Hungarian peasant, kills a border guard while fleeing. He is fed up with smuggling and wants to put an end to it, yet he needs money to get a job so he embarks on another turn. Anyica, the Romanian widow, is in a similar situation. They meet on their way back. A storm is about to break out. A farmer offers them lodging for the night, believing them to be married. At the farmer's house in the whirl of the namesday party, they both relax, and for a few hours they do not think of their squalor. In the morning, they set off again. At the border, they run into a guard. They escape into the reeds with the gendarmes in their heels. They withdraw into a little hut. (oficjalny tekst dystrybutora)
