W prehistorycznej osadzie o nazwie Bedrock, w czasach kamienia łupanego, żyją dwie zaprzyjaźnione rodziny. Fred Flintstone i Barney Rubble pracują w kamieniołomach. Ich żony, Wilma i Betty, wychowują dzieci i zajmują się domem. Nieuczciwy Cliff Vandercave wraz z przyjaciółką Rosettą chcą okraść firmę Slate & Co. Ogłaszają konkurs na wiceprezesa firmy, licząc na to, że ten będzie wykonywał ich polecenia. Nieoczekiwanie Fred wygrywa konkurs. Od tej pory zmienia się życie Flintstonów.
