Fortunately, the modern history of Barbie films goes back beyond the first attempts of the 1980s and 1990s and begins with this magical variation on P.I. Tchaikovsky's classic ballet "The Nutcracker" based on "The Nutcracker and The Mouse King" by E. T.A. Hoffmann. It has an interesting framework narrative with lessons to be learned, and it is also of course the ideal first step to building an empire with the film face of the Barbie doll. Here she acts as Clara, the Sugar Plum Fairy Princess, and as herself. She tells the entire story to her little sister Shelley, and thanks to their ballet lesson, there’s now an opportunity for a full Christmas story. Personally, I was hesitant after my first viewing of it, but with my gradual knowledge of all the films, I can’t help but rate it as excellent.
