Mroczne przejscie

A Bogart movie - about him, with him, but without him. In terms of cinema, Dark Passage is inventive, Bogart-tough, Bacall-cool, mutually electric, but for god’s sake, what’s with the screenplay? You would be hard pushed to find something quite so hypnotic, or perhaps just so absolutely dumb within this genre. There is certainly no risk that you might know what’s going on ten or twenty minutes into this. And you still won’t know at the end. Dark Passage is either infinite dumb movie cleverly hidden in a noir overcoat or else it is a very cleverly devised movie. It’s up to you which you choose. Like many others, I was asking myself if this was really happening or not all the way through. I decided to tell myself that it wasn’t. Because the idea that this was all meant seriously is terrifying. So I tended toward thinking this was a comedy, but I really am not so sure. I would have to read the book by David Goodis that this was based on. (19.04.2008)
