While researching 19th-century poet Randolph Henry Ash, a pair of literary sleuths, Roland Michell and Maud Bailey, stumble upon a love letter written by Ash, who was supposedly faithfully married, to Christabel LaMotte, a lesser-known poet believed to be a chaste spinster. A terribly boring piece that not even Aaron Eckhart and Gwyneth Paltrow can save. And it gives the impression that the poet Ash was outright some mythical figure of British Victorian poets. The whole story revolves around him, as if he was the most important poet on the whole continent.
