After having been deceived by his wife, rich Edward Leeford found consolation in the love of a young maiden: Agnes Flemming. He leaves his whole fortune to Agnes Flemming and her child (Oliver Twist), yet to be born. Mrs. Leeford opposes the validity of the will, but the court finds against her – only one stipulation is added: that, if within ten years, i.e. September 27 th, 1927, Agnes Flemming or her child have not applied for the bequest, the fortune shall pass to Mrs. Leeford or her child. Mrs. Leeford dies, her son goes to London, gets into bad company, and under the assumed name of Monks becomes a member of a gang of thieves. Fagin, the leader of the gang, supplies him with money, hoping to reimburse himself when the large inheritance comes along. Soon it will be the 27 th of September 1827. Fate throws the little, nine year-old Oliver Twist into the arms of the gang of thieves. Monks notices with fear the likeness of the boy with his father. He learns of the existance of a second testament of his father which is in the possession of his father's friend Brownslow. Sikes, also a member of the gang of thieves, is to steal the testament from Brownlow with the help of the little Oliver. The burglaring is frustrated. Sikes escapes, but he had to leave the little Oliver behind him in the house of Brownslow. On the 27th of September 1827 Monks learns at the Public Notary that all his wily struggles for the inheritance have been in vain. (oficjalny tekst dystrybutora)
