Sportswriter Erik Kernan (Hartnett) wants nothing more than to discover a story great enough to make headlines. So when he meets Champ (Jackson), a former boxing champion living on the streets, he knows he has a shot to save them both. Oh my, that disgustingly American ending really knocked me out. Why? Why? One enjoys the squawking Samuel L. Jackson, looks forward to seeing how the young and overly ambitious guy, played perfectly by Josh Hartnett, takes a fall, can't wait for the next scene with Alan Alda, watches very nicely done flashbacks, at one point even hears Raging Bull himself talking on the phone... And then comes what I'm writing about in the first sentence of this commentary. Bob Satterfield!
