asper Van Dien, star of Paul Verhoeven's original theatrical hit STARSHIP TROOPERS, returns after over a decade for this second sequel to the alien-bug-battling, action-packed splatter-fest satire. After the celebrated Johnny Rico (Van Dien), now a colonel, attempts to defend the planet Roku San from some nasty arachnids, he finds himself put on death row for acting inappropriately during battle. But when a Federation starship piloted by tough soldier babe Lola Beck (Jolene Blalock, ENTERPRISE) crashes on a far-away alien planet, only the bug-squashing Rico can save the day, and so the authorities have no choice but to release him for the mission. Armed with an impossibly advanced weapon known as the Marauder, Rico and his crew are prepared to exterminate by any means necessary. MARAUDER, written and directed by Edward Neumeier (co-scribe of ROBOCOP and the original STARSHIP TROOPERS), is a return to satire form for the Starship series (oficjalny tekst dystrybutora)

angielski After the horror of the second part (which wasn’t very good, but unlike others, I had no problem watching), Starship Troopers goes back to its roots with satirical action sci-fi. I wouldn’t have believed it, but the film was more fun when it played with that ironic propaganda than during the action set-pieces with the bugs. Some people here are complaining about religious proselytism, but I wouldn’t say that, because when images of praying girls and interspersed with images of shooting guns, you can hardly call that proselytism. The execution and the special effects are closer to the Stargate TV series than to the cinematic Starship Troopers, but I’m cool with that in a direct-to-video movie. Besides, the final monster was pretty nice. The film delivered pretty much what I expected: average entertainment. PS: That song is quite catchy. :D ()

angielski This likable low-budget B-movie does not in any way conceal its production limitations, but rather manages to boldly contend with them. Unfortunately, before the film finally pulls its screenwriting ace out of its sleeve, it has spent too much time on insipidly staged action, overly complicated introductions of the characters and, mainly, needlessly drawn-out copying of the strong points of Verhoeven’s original classic, which this film’s creators are not quite able to pull off with a significantly smaller budget. But when it finally comes to developing the motif of faith as a form of madness and as a weapon for subjugating the enemy, the whole project luckily gets a second wind, thanks to which it entertainingly makes it to the bombastic climax with the alien-insect mega-vagina. angielski So even from this sequel, I didn't have such a bad feeling, I even think that for a B-movie, it is pretty good. And that's including some tricks that are more than bearable. I didn't expect that at all. I won't claim that it is a great film, but it has the atmosphere of the first one, plus great B-movie characters and the return of Casper Van Dien. ()

angielski Even though it's the "latest" cinematic work of Starship Troopers, the effects and story are probably the dumbest of them all :) They did bring back Casper, aka Rico, but it's not the same anymore; you can only appreciate Lola's lips as big as monster truck tires. For me, it was a slight disappointment, and I can't really say many positive things - actually, none at all. But what annoyed me the most was the religious propaganda (that praying at the very end was just too much!) and those special effects, oh my god, those effects LOL. ()
