Telling Lies in America

Cleveland, the 1960s. 17-year-old Hungarian immigrant Karchy Jonas (Brad Renfro) decides to enter a popularity contest for high school students organised by the DJ Billy Magic (Kevin Bacon). After persuading his co-worker Diney (Calista Flockhart) to date him if he wins, Karchy refuses to leave it up to chance and secures his victory by sending in hundreds of nominations for himself. Billy is impressed by this tactic, and takes the hero-worshipping Karchy on as his gofer, but Karchy is soon to discover that his role-model is not the man he thought him to be. (Cinemax)
