angielski This is an incredibly moving melodrama with excellent work by Josef von Sternberg and even more exquisite costumes. It's very difficult for me to accept the fact that I can't regularly watch this film in my home theater because the cascade of pleasures in Children of Divorce is endless. Even the delicate friendship between Kitty and Jean is pure joy. They naturally cling to each other when they're together, and it's so beautiful when they share life's joys and sorrows. The story is clear: children of divorced parents never want to pass on the same misfortune to their own children. And so, when it comes time for the first marriage for a couple not destined for each other, both girlfriends accept their fate. Love for a partner must give way to marriage. And once again, I have to marvel at those costumes, which have their own life during the film, serving as part of the decor, and when Jean sits on the stairs to console Kitty, her train of a dress isn't disturbed by any movement. Similarly, when Kitty decides her fate, the letter fits so perfectly into the folds of her morning coat that I could hardly catch my breath. Not to mention the splendid crown worn by Jean, adorning her beautiful head during the fateful evening. And the grand evening gown worn by Kitty with its ruffled skirt and large openings. And the excellent Art Deco pattern on Jean's everyday dress, and Kitty's nightgown, and... ahhh! ()
