Experience Everest as it's never been before in this harrowing trek to touch the roof of the world. With unusually severe weather and heartbreaking circumstances, this expedition up the world's tallest peak becomes fraught with unexpected perils, leading to an emotional journey full of fear, hardship, exhaustion, disappointment and unforgettable triumphs. Boasting a crew of climbers each with something to prove, this expedition includes the first-ever double amputee to aim for the summit, an asthmatic climber ascending without bottled oxygen and a motorcyclist embracing life once again after a near-fatal traffic accident. angielski In places, this documentary is impassioned and sentimental in a typically American way and, furthermore, it is conceived a bit like a “breathtaking action-reality show” (meh), but it is unsurpassed thanks to the events it captures. While the first three episodes are annoying due to their constant repetition of information for viewers “who have not seen the previous episode”, you will later understand why it was important to spend several weeks acclimatizing with each participant and getting to know them more closely. In the third and fourth episodes, as they ascend to the higher camps, you watch them “reach the top of their own mountain”, one after another, despondently returning downward, watching their “more successful” colleagues go on with bated breath. Those colleagues are stuck in the death zone at 40°C below zero with a limited amount of oxygen, trying to overcome the difficult rocky parts, where they are held back by crowds of less experienced, fumbling Asian expeditions; they fight the lack of consideration on the part of their own teammates, who are 100 meters below the summit and unable to take another step but refuse to return, putting the lives of all their fellow climbers and Sherpas in danger. And they meet an unknown dying man whom they cannot help and whose identity and nationality they learn only back at base camp thanks to a passport with the label “missing persons of this week”. And there’s a lot more, all of it shown in authentic shots that will freeze you to your seat, especially if mountain climbing is close to your heart. I watched this until dawn, unable to turn it off before it was over. I want a 150-minute Blu-ray cut! [Season 1 – 6 episodes – 2006 Expedition] ()
