Kurošicudži - Season 2

To be honest, I liked it – throughout – more than the first one, which is why it got an extra star as well. BUT what was the deal with the ending? It didn’t get me, it was kind of bland and flavorless. I don't feel like elaborating on how Alois was a sadist and in his own way a really disgusting character, that Ciel retained something of his nobility, that Claude was just a cheap imitation of Sebastian from the get-go, that Sebastian wasn't so cool anymore, that Grell may have stepped up but just drooled over Sebastian and his "scythe" was rarely used, that we saw all the familiar faces here but thankfully they didn't bother us for long because it was more focused on Alois/Ciel (no, I'm really not pairing them up and I don't plan to), that Hannah and the three minions kind of annoyed me, too. It was sort of fine throughout, there was even a twist that happened that I absolutely was not expecting (but then that twist was a bit of a burial; never mind, we'll survive). Kind of a weak 3 stars, which might not have been so weak if they hadn't messed up the ending so badly. (17.09.2010)

At first, I was afraid that the new stories would be narrated from the perspective of an impulsive newcomer, but as soon as Sebastian's familiar voice sounded and the familiar eye patch flashed, it was clear. The second season of Kuroshitsuji is darker, more complex, and much more focused on the bond between the servant and the master. And although Claude didn't particularly grow on me (not to mention sadistic Alois), I still have to praise it. The brave ending of the story, which doesn't deviate from the originally intended goal and still gives fans the feeling that it couldn't have turned out any other way, simply deserves praise. After all, I'm just an ordinary fan. (12.09.2011)
