In our world, terrorist groups and intelligence agencies are engaged in a merciless war in the name of radically opposing ideologies. Yet terrorists and secret agents lead almost the same lives. Condemned to secrecy, these masters of manipulation are slaves to the same tactics. Take Alex and Al Barad: one heads the counter-terrorist unit of the DGSE (France's CIA), the other is the leader of a terrorist network, and they come at each other with the most ruthless of weapons—humans. SECRET DÉFENSE is the story of their battle, told through the eyes of Diane, a student recruited by the French secret service, and Pierre, a lost soul who thinks he'll find salvation in terrorism. Trained and indoctrinated for missions beyond their grasp, they are trapped in a chain of events they can't manage to escape. Will they ultimately be sacrificed in the name of their "noble" causes? angielski This film belongs to the category where the less willing you are to think about the logic of events and the thought processes of the characters, the more you will like it. The visual aspects and directorial execution, handling of action scenes, and directing of actors are really on point. The casting worked great, so I have no objections in that regard. On the other hand, the script is one of those where the screenwriter searched for impressive twists for so long, that he completely lost himself in the intricacies of the spy service and its adversaries. Secrets of State thematically slightly resembles Besson's La Femme Nikita, where a girl becomes a war machine, and the former college student, who had a completely different idea of life, suddenly becomes a person without a past and living multiple lives at once. By the way, I liked Vahina Giocante more than Anne Parillaud in the past. Overall impression: 60%. ()
