This one-hour special charts the troubled relationship between Elizabeth, Queen of England and Diana, Queen of Hearts; one remote and pragmatic, the other emotional and insecure. Starting with the shocking death of Princess Diana in a Paris underpass in August 1997, this revealing documentary charts the two women’s relationship from its very beginnings, from the royal wedding, through the births of Princes William and Harry, to Diana’s emergence as a global superstar and the breakdown of the marriage. The story ends in a final showdown, as Diana’s coffin passes the gates of Buckingham Palace. Looming throughout is the constant presence of Princes Charles’ married lover Camilla Parker Bowles, and all the while Elizabeth follows the unfolding dramas without emotion, putting first her duty to the throne and the institution of the monarchy. Featuring revealing interviews and personal accounts from royal experts and those closest to the British monarchy, this is the tragic story of two women; worlds apart, but chained together by fate and duty.
