A woman was expecting a baby and during this time she had a craving for rapunzel herbs. These grew only in the garden of a wicked witch. Whenever the woman wanted them, her husband fetched them from the garden. But one day the gate was locked. In despair, he tried to steal the herbs. But the witch caught him and he had to promise to give her his child.
Soon after she was born, the witch took the child. She gave her the name Rapunzel. When Rapunzel was twelve years old, the witch locked her in a tower. Whenever she wanted to go up to Rapunzel, she called: "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair." Rapunzel grew up to be a beautiful woman. She sat in the tower and sang songs to pass the time. One day a prince heard her beautiful singing and was captivated. He watched the witch as she climbed up the plait, and that evening he did the same. Rapunzel fell in love with him. They kept their love a secret, but one day the witch discovered them. She was so angry that she cut off Rapunzel's hair and burned it. She lured the prince into the tower and had him blinded. In despair the prince searched for his Rapunzel. When he finally recognised her by her singing, Rapunzel's tears of joy restored his sight to him. The prince and Rapunzel got married. At the wedding Rapunzel was also reunited with her overjoyed parents.

Czech fairytales have amazing premises but often a pretty stupid interpretation when it comes to television movies. German fairytales have amazing locations but often absurd stories which pile up nonsense upon nonsense. I don’t know why the Czech Television won’t pay more attention to the locations where its fairytales could take place. Our country is full of beautiful fairytale locations. All you have to do is look.
