Frank and Sara have recently moved to the country to raise their one-year old son Adam, away from the chaos and pollution of the big city. Sara's apprehension about the move and her fear of living in the middle of nowhere is heightened when she notices a trespasser on their property one morning. Frank assures her that everything is alright, but Sara leaves a message with the Sheriff's office anyway. That evening, they leave Adam with Sara's parents in the city to have the night to themselves, something they haven't done in a long time. Unbeknownst to them, an intruder has already broken into their house and transformed it into a trap, drilling shut the windows and cutting off the security system. They come home from their date night to spend a relaxed evening together. But the night slowly descends into a living nightmare, as a game of cat and mouse begins and climaxes in a final showdown between the killer and his victim. (oficjalny tekst dystrybutora)

Very pleasant surprise. What I liked the most about Home Sweet Home were the opening twenty minutes – pretty distinctive for the home-invasion sub-genre – that show villain slowly preparing the field, and we don’t get to meet the heroes until about the 20th minute. The pace, however, barely increases; this is a slow-burn horror movie about three characters in one house. If you don’t waste time pondering why the psychopath is doing what he’s doing and what he wants, and overlook the fact that the female lead squanders a couple of opportunities to definitely get rid of the villain, you can enjoy a very well made and gripping film that never rushes things. Really remarkable stuff – as long as you are patient and don’t demand from horror litres of blood, loads of action and Oscar-worthy written characters. :) 7/10
