For reasons unrevealed as the film begins, Crystal and her boyfriend Leo embark on a journey in a rickety car through the state of Florida. Their goal is to reach the Gulf, where Leo will get a boat to disappear from the police. What are they running away from? The story will give clues as the film develops. The paranoia of the characters grows and couple conflicts surface. (El Riviera Maya Film Festival)

This road movie isn’t sunny at all. Lovers on the run, summer in Florida, slow pace, decent performances, aiming at emotions and lyricism rather than storytelling. To some extent, it’s pretty similar to Malick, but in stuff like Badlands (the theme calls for comparisons) rather than his latest work, which basically drowns in lyricism. In her directorial début, Amy Seimetz balances it so well that I am able to take it in. :) In any case, it’s an interesting crime road-movie from a female perceptive, and it’s in fact the “emotional mood” of the female protagonist what makes it so remarkable. The guy sometimes doesn’t get it and all he can do is wonder… :-D
