Matière Grise

Rwandan director Kivu Ruhorahoza created a drama out of three parallel stories, because he considers the reality to be too complex to be captured in a linear story. The autobiographic part about a director, who desperately tries to get money for his film about violence, constitutes the frame for a film within a film. The story of siblings, Yvan and Justine, permeates the parallel symbolic line about a mentally disabled man, while sensitively reflecting the topic of genocide. The emphasis is primarily on the composition of the images that evoke the state of mind of people after a traumatic experience, without the necessity to display the violence explicitly. (Febiofest)
