Opisy(1)

Politician Aadu and his wife set out to pick mushrooms on a day when he gets a call from a journalist confronting him with regard to suspected corruption. By coincidence the married couple find themselves in a car with a pompous rock idol named Zäk. After discovering that the spot his wife has chosen to pick mushrooms is full of vacationers, Aadu decides to find a quieter place. The woods which he ultimately finds, however, are perhaps too deep and inhospitable, and finding a way out may not be that easy.... This satirical tragicomedy with touches of refreshing black humor is Estonian director and screenwriter Toomas Hussar’s feature debut. He takes aim at the often unscrupulous behavior of contemporary politicians and media stars willing to pile up corpses on the way to power and popularity. (Karlovy Vary International Film Festival)

angielski Welcome to the woods. Very funny. I just love this type of cynical black comedies with an irresistibly wound-up protagonist (a politician in the middle of a scandal about paying for a family holiday with state funds). The other characters aren’t lost, either. Well, they are, but you know what I mean… :D A very nice festival movie. Even better if you go mushroom hunting at least sometimes, because you will understand very well the motivations of the characters (for instance, looking in envy at the basket of another mushroom hunter full of chanterelles and wanting to turn around and go back home). angielski After some of the opinions I heard, I was ready for anything. After all, Estonian movies tend to be a little rough around the edges. But in the end, I was pleasantly surprised. After a few mysterious nights out in the woods, the director has managed to turn the unlikable characters into quite the charmers who would struggle to find a single clean spot on their bodies; all the more absurd and fun it was. In its very nature, it’s basically a politician going mushroom hunting in the woods with his wife and his musician “friend” and they get lost. The premise in itself is pretty weird. But I loved the filmmaking, I had a few laughs and it showcased an encounter of an ordinary person and a politician which proves that they’re not the same and never will be. I watched this for the Challenge Tour 2015. ()
