Zniknięcie Eleanor Rigby: Ona

Systematic, well acted and tightly led. The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby offers a traditional tale of great loss and finding oneself with all the obstacles and peripeteia that normal life has to offer. Without sentimentality, with handheld camerawork and a minimal sound mix (apparently, you can appreciate the blurred sounds of the street, etc. only with the appropriate equipment), and almost no music – but at the right moment the trip-hop master Son Lux (emotional spikes) shatters the silence. I would have liked to see it push the envelope a bit more and a faster pace, but we'll see what the next two episodes bring, maybe as a whole it will be significantly better. (17.07.2016)

First of all, I have to thank the Pilsen Film Club for screening Him and Her on the same night right after each other. If there was any more space between the films, I probably wouldn't rate them the way I do. The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby is a perfectly crafted romantic drama with very believable performances, an impressively quiet atmosphere, and a rather unexpectedly evolving story that takes its time in revealing various important things, but doesn't drag on and doesn't get boring.___I liked the second film, Her, probably a bit more than Him. But if I had not seen Him before Her, I would probably not have enjoyed Her as much. I would have missed a lot of the plot. However, I take my hat off to the writer and director. The different way of looking at the same thing is an extremely refreshing idea, and the cold Eleanor, who simply disappeared in Him God knows why and God knows where, has become a completely different Eleanor, fragile, groping and searching, who is no longer difficult to understand. She finds his support in her family (the wonderful William Hurt and Isabelle Huppert) and the person who was Conor's father in the Him story is this time Professor Friedman, played by Viola Davis.
