angielski Pierre Richard is a much better actor than a director and screenwriter, but when he sticks to what made him famous as an actor, namely the role of a sympathetic troublemaker who faces the adversity and the will of those around him, the film really holds together and works perfectly. However, in the second half, the screenplay runs out of steam and the film not only loses its pace but also its effectiveness. From a truly great start, the quality of the film goes downhill continuously, and I would only give one star to the final ten minutes. Three stars and a 55% overall impression are ultimately a reasonable compromise. ()

angielski I hadn’t seen The Troubles of Alfred and I'm more than surprised - I'm downright thrilled! Pierre Richard plays more or less the same character as in my beloved La Chevre, but the mood of this film is completely different. Especially at the beginning, the film is very quiet and one could perhaps say sensitive (by Richard’s standards of course). However, it gradually picks up, introduces more characters (the great Mario David as a non-champion boxing champion) and culminates in a TV competition that at times brought me to tears (especially during the "the country people are watching TV, whatever they are doing" scenes). The romantic line works very well and there is certainly enough humor. However, I can't agree with those who are not satisfied with the dubbing - Eduard Cupák suits Pierre Richard as well as Petr Oliva (if not more). ()
