Opisy(1)

Anti-social 30-something Jerónimo lives the life of a loner, hiding behind his beard and his prejudices. He tries to have everything under control in the house he lets out to foreigners, but his strict routine is disrupted when the attractive Sanna from Norway arrives on his doorstep holding a suitcase. While Jerónimo isn’t exactly a model Latin lover and Sanna doesn’t come across as the cool Scandinavian type, their cultures and life attitudes cause a good deal of conflict. As in the case of his debut, the director continues his scrutiny of Chile and its people, attempting to establish their identity through their confrontations with foreigners. “The film was motivated by a need to speak about mistrust and the collective paranoia which plagues our society, and the isolation this lack of trust breeds. Jerónimo’s house represents modern Chile with its deep-seated social prejudices. We’re lagging behind in everything.” Two of the three protagonists are played by non-actors; the role of Jerónimo was entrusted to well-known photographer Cristóbal Palma. angielski In a way, this is a typical festival film, that is, a film intended for travel to film festivals and possible late-night broadcast on a television station pretending to be artistic. There is a lot of dialogue, interesting characters, and a hint of a story, but it's not sufficient for a genre-oriented regular viewer, and most importantly, it lacks a developed conclusion. In the end, one thinks that so much potential has actually gone to waste... It is actually a film about the conflict between two approaches to life and partially two civilizational cultures. One is a skeptical approach and the other is motivated by the desire to help the world without considering possible consequences for one's surroundings. Overall impression: 60%. ()
