Greeks versus Persians. Each side led by a powerful leader determined not to fail. Each leader a son: one of Democracy, the other of a Great King. The battles of Marathon and Salamis in 5th century BC were fought between the huge, as-yet-undefeated Persian army and the heroic citizen-soldiers of Greece — prepared to do anything to protect their freedom. "For Athens" pits brilliant, ambitious Themistocle the Greek against Persian King Darius, builder of empires. Later, Darius' son Xerxes returns to the site of his father's defeat to avenge his shame.
