The 5th Monster High movie works very well within the universal formula of the sports genre. The rules and emotions are clear, and in the end, it doesn't matter if one is rooting for the MH girls' team on skates or maybe Rocky against Apollo Creed or Madonna on the baseball team in A League of Their Own or watching cricket in Lagaan. Operetta as a rebel has a great role, with a surprising role for Rochelle Goyle as a gargoyle, and the original Robecca Steam is unexpectedly funny. I don't find the series of collectible dolls from this particular movie to be amazing, but seeing Ghoulia Yelps in a helmet shaped like a brain always makes me smile :)
