Trwa wojna, a wokół rozkwita wiosna. Mleczarz Kosta (Emir Kusturica) codziennie przekracza linię frontu, aby dowieźć żołnierzom pożywienie. Los mu sprzyja: kule się go nie imają, piękna Milena (Sloboda Mićalović) oddała mu serce, a jego przyszłość rysuje się w jasnych barwach. Do czasu. Wraz z przybyciem do wioski tajemniczej Włoszki (Monica Bellucci), życie Kosty wywraca się do góry nogami. Tak wygląda początek namiętnej i zakazanej miłości, przez którą para bohaterów zostanie wystawiona na niejedną niebezpieczną próbę. Skoro jednak połączył ich los, to nikt i nic nie może im zagrozić. I’d almost say “Balkan Wes Anderson”. But where Anderson is playful and brilliant, Emir Kusturica is vulgarly stupid and
cheap. A nice ending, but that’s it.

When the camera focuses on a chicken admiring itself in a mirror, I thought, "Yep, that's the Emir Kusturica I know." But as the film went on, I realized it was missing that classic Kusturica humor. Some shots are breathtaking, while others feel a bit pointless. But then the ending hit, and I was blown away. I have to admit, On the Milky Road has its charm. If only it had skipped the digital effects that ended up making the whole thing feel a bit silly — it could've been much better and more true to Kusturica’s usual style.

An absolutely crazy love story set against the backdrop of a war conflict somewhere in the Balkans. That's just Emir Kusturica for you, and that's why I love him, including his beautiful scenery and amazing music. While there is some visual craziness here that might warrant a lower rating, like when the central couple flies down a waterfall, overall, I had a great time, and I think that's what really matters. Moreover, some of the situations depicted made me think more deeply. To be specific, what did the snake, which appears mostly in the tense moments of the film, actually symbolize? There are many ways to interpret this...
