Paradiset

The nuptial odyssey of eighty-somethings Hans and Kerstin has lasted 65 years. The aged couple is spending their summer holiday on the shore of a lake in Northern Sweden. When Hans announces that he wants to paper the cottage's white wall, Kerstin protests. After all, the wall is the only acceptable place for the dear quilt that grandmother knitted in 1880. Conflict is imminent, but Kerstin has her own means of dealing with the whims of her husband. Or will both of them somehow get their way? Paradise is Sladkowski's third film featuring the Swedish couple. Having secured their complete trust, and perhaps with a bit of staging and provocation with his camera, the director has put together a "docucomedy" that illuminates the power relationships that have grown out of the couple's long life together.
