In the aftermath of a 1990 earthquake that left at least thirty thousand dead, Abbas Kiarostami returned to Koker, where his camera surveys not only devastation but also the teeming life in its wake. Blending fiction and reality into a playful, poignant road movie, And Life Goes On follows a film director who, along with his son, makes the trek to the region in hopes of finding out if the young star of Where Is the Friend's Home? is among the survivors, and discovers a resilient community pressing on in the face of tragedy. Finding beauty in the bleakest of circumstances, Kiarostami crafts a quietly majestic ode to the best of the human spirit. (Criterion)

angielski As a pseudo-documentary about a landscape scarred by an unimaginable natural disaster, the film gets 2 stars from me. In all other aspects, Kiarostami fails in my eyes. His film lacks a lot of what makes a film a film, including the most basic elements like a script. The dialogues are unpleasantly banal, especially considering the situation of the local people and the tragedy they face. The communication between the boy and the woman who lost her daughter about God is just a small spark that didn't ignite anything. The work of director Kiarostami is intended for a very specific type of festival audience, which I do not belong to. It's a warning for me to avoid his films completely. Overall impression: 35%. ()
