Tampere

Matti Kassila's (b. 1924) documentary is an interesting piece about the city of Tampere. It starts with some lines by the Tampere-born poet Lauri Viita, and focuses on the industrial and cultural side of Tampere, crystallized by these three words: ''machines, shoes and fabrics''. Like Kassila puts it: "1 hope Tampere will never pull down those red brick walls." (Tampere Film Festival)
