Antoine looks back on his life and recalls his childhood, which was marked by two events. The first was having to wear woollen swimming trunks knitted for him by his mother. The second was his lustful obsession with the plump hairdresser Madame Sheaffer. Since, he has had one objective in his life: to marry a hairdresser. Thirty years on, he meets Mathilde, who runs her own hairdresser's salon. After she has cut his hair for the first time, Antoine asks her to marry him. The next time he sees her, to his surprise, she accepts. For a while, they enjoy a blissful happy union, in an idyllic world of their own creation. It is a very difficult movie and not a comedy at all. Jean Rochefort and Anna Galiena tell a story of how far love can go. And everything is tender, natural and beautiful, until it goes beyond the line of common sense about how far love should go. However, some scenes were worth it. They made me bate my breath and I believe that I was not the only one. The finale knocked me down so hard that I wouldn’t expect it from a story that was at times so absurd. However, for that finale I give the fourth star, because thanks to it I again became a part of the classic French movie, which does not spare anyone, ever.
