A young woman, Eva, walks along the banks of the river with her daughter. Suddenly they discover a dead body floating along the riverside. Eva runs to the nearest phone booth, but instead of calling the police, she calls her old father and asks of his wellbeing. Why? This is the prelude to Berit Nesheim's first feature film after her Academy Award Nominated "The other side of Sunday".

Police inspector Konrad Sejer finds his usually peaceful town hit by two brutal murders. Same side of town and with short interval. Apparently there is no connection, Sejer concludes. But is it just by sheer coincidence that the slightly nervous Eva Magnus seems to be connected to both of them? Eva is in her mid-thirties, divorced and she lives alone with her daughter. She works as home help and night watch to make ends meet. An idealistic artist and down-to-earth single mother who dreams about painting full-time. One day she meets her childhood friend, Maja, who gives her an interesting but frightening offer. Eva, whose debts are increasing, makes a choice, which has fatal consequences...
