In the middle of the night a hospital patient is murdered, He is a policeman, and his murder is the bloodiest in Swedish police annals. The painstaking efforts of Homicide Inspector Beck and his men to solve the murder is bitingly and entertainingly depicted. It turns out that police brutality and misguided esprit-de-corps lie behind the murder. The story culminates in a showdown with the desperate, solitary killer on a rooftop in the centre of the city. Now that's what I call a well-made whodunit. And a pretty apt ending, too. The subject itself has something to it. The brutal scene in the hospital, which starts the sequence of events, will probably stay in my memory for a long time, thanks to the excellent work with suspense. Although it is basically a routine investigation, the story never gets boring, and even the last, significantly more action-packed third of the movie feels very realistic and authentic. I also really like the portrayal of the police officers as ordinary flesh-and-blood people, because obviously none of them are the intrepid and savvy James Bond-style superheroes. (80%)
