Deathgasm

Zwiastun 1

Brodie is the new kid in town. With a crack-addicted mum and an obsession with all things metal, he doesn't fit in to his white-bread neighbourhood or with his religious relatives. Even sightings of the gorgeous Medina aren't enough to shake Brodie from his belief that he has landed in small-town hell. But when he meets fellow metalhead Zakk while picking through vinyls at the local record store he knows he's found a mate for life. Together with their equally socially-outcast friends Dion and Giles they form a band, Deathgasm, and when they find a mysterious piece of sheet music at the house of their metal hero Rikki Daggers they dedicate themselves to learning to play it...Little did they know, the mystical music is actually a spell to summon malevolent forces, and very soon everyone in the town has been infected by the demon curse. Now, our thrashing losers must man up to save the day. (Madman Entertainment)

angielski Awful disappointment, and I’m not the type of horror fan who gets very excited about a metal horror-splatter. Based on the responses from festivals, it seems that everybody liked Deathgasm, and with New Zealand setting the bar pretty high for horror comedies last year (Housebound, What We Do In the Shadows), I was expecting at least some user friendly, fun silliness. If only! It was SO sad! And predictable! Really, I didn’t laugh even once throughout the whole film, and when I tried to fight my boredom guessing what would be the next embarrassing attempt at humour the creators would come up with, I was right several times. The gore and the make-up are fairly good (one star for that, at least), but it all feels boring and repetitive. All the possessed look the same, and then they are stabbed, chopped or cut with a chainsaw followed by bucketfuls of blood, rinse and repeat. Boring, sad, bad, avoid. ()

angielski The start of this movie is absolutely brilliant. Any fan of ultra blackened death metal will surely be delighted. But, this excitement will be cut short when you fully realize that it is actually a splatter movie and the death-metal catchphrases are a bit too much. At the same time, the story is off-base in the right way. The actors are perfectly wacky and overall it has such a distinctive atmosphere that you almost feel like it is a part of death brutal grindcore metal. In the end, I admit that I will always be indecisive on whether the movie is humorous or a splatter. Unfortunately, I do not accept both. ()

angielski Pecka is not really good. It has too many elements that bothered me a little - the main one being the digital effects, which are simply awful in some places. And the pacing is not that great either. But the topic is not bad, and the execution is not bad either, and here and there you can even have a good laugh. The parody is done nicely here, you don't even feel like it's awkward, like in classic horror parodies. ()
