It is also a film about rebellion, although one could primarily consider it only as the rebellion of an abused and (semi)enslaved black man against his white masters. However, in my opinion, it is not the only rebellion. Similarly, in the story of servant Whity and his "benefactors," one could consider it a rebellion against social or class exploitation (exploitation of an unproductive employee by an unnecessary and perverse employer) or the resistance of the "black sheep" of the family against his parents and siblings, associated with the frequent motif of forbidden love. These are rebellions and rejections that are more intense the more he tries to overcome and reconcile the conflicts that ultimately lead to his revolt. But because such radical negation never has hope for lasting success, all that is left is to shoot the first five bullets and keep the last one for oneself... ()
