In my opinion, Jaume Balagueró didn't manage the horror build-up, because he tried to make a mysterious film, but he overcomplicated the plot a bit in the hope to surprise or shock the viewer. He didn't quite manage to do that, but it has to be said that the film has a very good atmosphere in places, and there are scenes here and there that are really worth watching. As a whole, though, it's not above average.
