Jedna z ubogich dzielnic Manili. Każdy w okolicy zna Rosę, która razem z mężem Nestorem ma tu niewielki sklep spożywczy. Ludzie ją lubią. Żeby utrzymać rodzinę – a jest ich sześcioro – Rosa z Nestorem handlują narkotykami w niewielkich ilościach. Pewnego dnia policja robi nalot na sklep. Zaczyna się zabawa w kotka i myszkę, której zasady są dobrze znane obu stronom: albo płacą policji łapówkę i wszyscy zapominają o sprawie, albo podają nazwisko dostawcy narkotyków. Przerażona wizją więzienia Rosa nie ma wyjścia. Wysyła swoje dzieci, by zdobyły gotówkę. (Warsaw Film Festival)

A poor family that has nothing and makes their living by packaging drugs is captured and financially blackmailed by the police, under the threat of imprisoning the parents. The family must act fast... This incredibly authentic portrait of a poverty-stricken Manila family and the hyena-like corruption of the Philippine capital is almost incomprehensible for a western viewer. The film uses documentary-style camerawork with long takes in authentic locations as though it was not staged with actors. There is no need to rouse emotion with music. Everything in front of the camera is just everyday routine, including the kids doing drugs on the streets. Ma’ Rosa received a 15-minute standing ovation at its Cannes premiere. [Cannes]
