Though Bringing Down the House is formulaic, it is still a very likable comedy with an ideal amount of all of the necessary ingredients.

The problem with the movie is the weak screenplay, which did not even come close to utilizing the potential that the subject brought. It is simply not very funny, furthermore Latifah's performance seemed uncomfortably forced and overplayed. The movie also does not surprise at all with its ending. Overall impression 35 %. The film is saved by Martin, who is not particularly stunning but reliable, and also by Levy in a smaller role.
