I'll admit it - Shakespeare's works have never really appealed to me. They belong to a different time and are meant for a different kind of audience. However, his works do have an undeniable advantage. They are so universally known that they can serve as a springboard for later authors. I think there are other authors and playwrights who came closer to the events at the court of Elsinore than the world-famous playwright did. I also think Upstart Crow finally reveals the truth about the English classic and gives the favored writer what he deserves. Although it caters too much to popular humor for my taste and sometimes the jokes are a bit forced, the British sitcom still leaves a positive impression, partly due to the presence of the charming Gemma Whelan, who dreams her futile dream of acting. Overall impression: 60%.
