Mimosas

A small caravan is charged with escorting an old, dying sheikh across Morocco's towering Atlas Mountains. They aim to fulfil his final wish – to be buried among his kin. Death, however, comes too soon. For fear of the unforgiving wilderness, some of the drivers refuse to go on. But two loners, Said and Ahmed, say they know the way and promise to bring the sheikh's remains to their resting place. Shakib also joins in, determined to aid the dangerous mission. "I belong to a generation without religious complexes, for whom there is no need to differentiate faith and religion, religion and spirituality. The same goes for creative work, which is yet another religious gesture, for, etymologically, 'religion' comes from religare, which means 'linking'. I wanted to make a film celebrating the re-enchantment in the world of today. I belong to those who believe in the return of the sacred." (Oliver Laxe, director) (Art Film Fest)
