"Frankenstein's Monsters: Sanda vs. Gaira" is exactly the kaiju film you expect. There is tension, there are tricks, this time moderately decent again, there is destruction and a battle of monsters. However, I can't help but feel that Ishirô Honda is starting to come across as an incredible routine filmmaker who has simply learned to shoot these films as easily as possible and just keeps doing it the same way with each new one. It's a shame because the first installment, directed by him, was more inventive.
